Commitment Expected of All Squash Section Sports Preferred Members (SPMs)

SPM acceptance involves a four-year commitment period, with advantages like reduced wait times and cost benefits in exchange. This page exists to remind members of what's expected, clarify what "commitment" means in practice, and remove ambiguity.

Obligations

  1. Minimum monthly Food & Beverage spending (HK$1,950 for members 28+), charged automatically to the member's account.
  2. Play in at least 50% of matches and maintain 75% availability for Winter League matches. "Availability" means being present regardless of whether you're selected to play.
  3. Attend at least 4 annual section functions, plus major events and Club Championships.
  4. Attend the Annual Squash Section AGM (mandatory for members 21+).
  5. Maintain an active section presence — social games, training, club nights.
  6. Volunteering for section events counts toward fulfilling commitment.
  7. Attend Hong Kong Squash Awards dinners if your team receives an award.

Categories

Injury allows an extension to the commitment period. Commitment is monitored every 6–12 months; non-compliance may result in withdrawn committee support and membership termination. Work or personal obligations are not accepted as an excuse for non-participation — this is framed as a deliberate choice members make when accepting SPM status.

Source content merges two near-duplicate pages on the old site (one dated July 2019, one dated April 2022/2024) — worth confirming with the Membership committee role that this is still the current, single source of truth before launch.
